Disclaimer: This post is in no way saying that I am perfect, or that your eat habits suck.
However, the truth is, we can all do a little better when it comes to what we put in our bodies. Myself included. (You’ve seen my Instagram page!) But you’d be surprised how small hacks and improvements can really go a long way. And most importantly, contrary to popular belief, it’s not that expensive to jumpstart healthier eating habits.
One of my besties in my head, Hannah Bronfman, is one of my inspirations when it comes to feeding your body what it deserves. So I'm sharing one of my favorite posts from her site, HBFit, in hopes that it will inspire you as well. Let’s end February on a high note, and March into next month with a mission to clean up our act! #kaleyeah
1. Add lemon to your water
Adding a squeeze of fresh lemon to your water has a multitude of benefits, including battling bad breath and preventing UTIs. It also happens to be one of the easiest ways to clean up your diet. By adding lemon to your water, you will undoubtedly be more keen on drinking water, which equals better hydration. Even better news? Lemon is great for liver health because the liver can make more enzymes out of lemon than any other food.
2. Wash Your Fruits and Veggies
We’ve all been told to wash our fruits and veggies before eating them or preparing them for our meals, but how bad can not doing so really be? Well, apparently a lot worse than we imagined! An Environmental Working Group study found upwards of 11 different pesticides on bell peppers, and discovered that the most contaminated fruits and vegetables are the ones we love most: strawberries, blueberries apples, lettuce, bell peppers and potatoes. Wash before you eat!
3. Replace salad dressing with Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Salad dressing often contains unhealthy ingredients and plenty of fats, and since your salads are a great opportunity to work some healthy fats into your daily diet, take the opportunity and drizzle your lettuce with Extra Virgin Olive Oil instead. Extra Virgin is important: this term represents the first press of the olives, which is an extraction method void of chemicals. Combine this with a spritz of lemon for a satisfying taste combo.
4. Eat a nutritious breakfast soon after getting up

It’s not just about starting your day off right. Eating a healthy, slow-digesting breakfast like oatmeal 15 to 20 minutes after waking up is essential for your blood sugar levels and insulin health. If you skip breakfast or wait too long before eating your first meal of the day, your blood sugar is likely to spike when you finally do eat. This means more insulin is required to bring it back down to normal.
