She’s 1/3 of the Sway in the Morning Crew, head honcho of She’s Beauty and the Beast, wellness enthusiast, the list goes on. I’m talking about Tracy G. And whether you’re hearing her voice on the radio, listening to her wake up calls, or her oh so inspiring audio vision boards, you get sucked in by her positive vibes. And along with her inner and outer beauty, Tracy G is here for the healthy lifestyle.
Anyone that works in media or entertainment knows staying on track can be a daunting task. From office junk food being passed around daily, to media events and dinners, to late nights with nothing to turn to but fast food or a vending machine. I spoke with Tracy to find out how she masters staying on top of what she’s putting in her body, and how she’s budgeting while doing so.
SOAB: Let’s start from the beginning. What’s the first thing you put in your body when you wake up.
TG: I wake up anywhere between 4-5, and the first thing I put in my body is water. It’s also the last thing I put in my body before I go to sleep at night.
SOAB: What’s a normal breakfast for you?
TG: Because of how I early I’m up, I usually have two breakfasts. The first is usually steel cut oats and berries, and later at Sirus I’ll have tea and maybe a couple hard boiled eggs.
SOAB: Let’s say you didn’t have time to pack a lunch. What’s would you suggest?
TG: There’s a spot I go to that serves bomb veggies as sides so I usually load up on those. Today they had butternut squash so I used that as my starch. But this place sometimes hooks me up with a lot of veggies. I think this goes all the way back to college, when my meal plan was depleted, that the most important people you should be cool with are the people who handle your food – especially at the spots you go to on a regular basis.
SOAB: What do you put on your salad these days?
TG: I usually start with kale, spinach or mixed greens, shrimp. If I haven’t had avocado in the morning, then I’ll do avocado. And then I have carrots, beets, brussel sprouts sometimes, feta cheese , diced tomatoes, maybe chickpeas. And then for dressing, I just trained myself to let go of all the fun tasty sauces and I just do balsamic vinegar and olive oil.
SOAB: How do you stay on track when you’re dating or in a relationship
TG: The crazy thing is, when I’m in love that’s probably when I am the most fit. I guess this maternal instinct kicks in and I wanna cook a lot, because I want to take care and nourish. And if I’m cooking for you, I’m cooking healthy.
SOAB: What does that stem from?
TG: My mother. She doesn’t always cook the healthiest, but she substitutes stuff because Haitian food is very very starchy. For example: every time she would make rice, it was brown rice. I stopped drinking soda when I was like 13 after seeing what these drinks and bad foods were doing to my family members.
SOAB: What are some of your vices?
TG: Sometimes I reach these points where I have to have some sort of chocolate. If I’m truly craving it, I will have it – if it’s a craving and not an addiction. Because cravings come once in a while and I’ll make exceptions. Like Magnolia Bakery just came out with a banana chocolate pudding, and I was like ‘oh I gotta try this bad boy.’
SOAB: Why is a healthy life style so important to you?
TG: I’m a professional extrovert, so I have to have energy. And when it comes to food, its not always about how my body’s gonna look, it’s about how it’s gonna feel. When I was younger, I thought I wanted to transition to the next life like at age 75 or something, but now I’m like I don’t want to. I think I wanna live until like 90 and actually be active. I’m 30 now and my metabolism isn’t how it used to be. You gotta do more. And I’m single, so I could be caught off guard the next time someone sees me naked, you know? Lol I’m trying to represent myself, my soul, in the best way possible.
Tracy’s TIps:
- If you’re craving chocolate or something sweet try a small coffee. Or a scoop of peanut butter.
- If you have to do take-out, get something that offers rewards points so you can save money in the future.
- Have cheat meals instead of cheat days.
- Try and stick to a $50 budget when grocery shopping.
