Valentine’s Day is all about uping the ante when it comes to expressing love. Well, since food is love, I think it’s important your tummy gets extra special treatment. One way, is to give your palate a sweet surprise. And nothing’s more surprising than pairing cupcakes with beer.
I know, it’s sounds crazy, but it’s actually freakin delicious. Luck at Trinity Groves in Dallas came up with the concept along with mastermind chef, Annie West. When I sat down with West and learned about all the effort and detail she put in these treats (she even makes the tiny candies she decorates them with) I knew they were gonna be amazing.
And yes, I asked the question you’re all wanting to know, ‘Why cupcakes and beer?’ West explained, most people would think cupcakes and champagne, but that’s too sweet. Beer is actually a great match, if you pair it correctly. And from red velvet, to peanut butter, to Italian cream, there’s something that everyone will love. Check out the line-up:
Italian Cream & Lemon Curd with Vanilla French Buttercream and Orange Blossom Honey – Paired with The Collective’s Belwegain, a Belgian Dubbel
Red Wine & Chocolate with Chocolate French Buttercream – Paired with Cedar Creek Brewery’s Fistcuffs Barleywine.
Molten Lava Espresso with Peanut Butter Buttercream – Paired with Community Vanilla Ascension Porter
Red Velvet Cupcake with Cream Cheese Icing – Paired with Bitter Sisters Knockout Red Ale
My favorite by far was the Italian Cream. Right smack dab in the center was lemon curd, which gives your taste buds that most pleasant wake-up call. If you’re interested in trying it out, the flight will be available Sunday on Valentine’s Day, from 11am until they run out. Cost: $25 (cupcakes will be full size) If you’re not in Dallas, I challenge you to try and do your own pairing at home. It could make for a cool kitchen date!
Have a happy (and sweet) Valentine’s Day!
